Two distinct choreographic voices come together in Montréal for a shared OFF-CINARS showcase at Circuit‑Est.
Oregon-based push/FOLD presents an excerpt from Aviator é Coyote, a new evening-length work by composer and choreographer Samuel Hobbs that brings athletic post-contemporary movement, original music, and storytelling into a physical and cinematic world. Drawing from experiences of assimilation, mixed heritage, and language loss, Aviator explores belonging, communication, adaptation, and what we carry forward when parts of what formed us remain inaccessible.
Québec’s ZemmourBallet presents L’amour du monde, a deeply physical work by choreographer Nicolas Zemmour that approaches love as an ongoing question rather than an answer. Through bodies that fall, rise, connect, resist, and separate, the work moves between freedom and attachment, surrender and resistance, loss and renewal.
Together, the two works offer contrasting yet resonant approaches to contemporary dance: one tracing the construction of identity and inheritance, the other examining our persistent need to question, connect, and remain open to the world.
Program Note

About the push/FOLD
push/FOLD is a contemporary dance company defined by movement, original music, and story. Led by composer and choreographer Samuel Hobbs, the company’s projects range from intimate and site-responsive performances to large-scale theatrical productions, including ‘Vespers,’ a cross-disciplinary production interweaving contemporary dance with 100 live vocalists.
The company’s aesthetic is grounded in momentum-based movement and partnering, shaped by Hobbs’ background in athletics and training across Contemporary Dance, Street, Break, and Ballet. Story and world-building form the foundation of each work, while Hobbs’ audio-spatial synesthesia shapes the relationship between choreography and original score and unifies movement and original music within a shared creative language.
Launched in 2018 and based in Portland, OR, push/FOLD has toured and taught nationally and internationally, engaging with communities through performances, residencies, their K-12 ‘Physics in Motion’ youth-reach, and education programs. In 2019, push/FOLD launched the Union PDX - Festival of Contemporary Dance, a presenting platform that has brought together national and international artists working across Contemporary Dance, Film, Danza Azteca, Kathak, Street, Break, Afro Cuban, and Ballet.
About Aviator é Coyote
"Aviator" is push/FOLD's latest evening-legnth work created by composer-choreographer and interdisciplinary artist Samuel Hobbs and premiering in March 2027. Informed by Hobbs’ audio-spatial synesthesia, Aviator integrates athletic post-contemporary dance, original music, animation, and lighting into a physical and cinematic world.
Drawing from experiences of assimilation, mixed heritage, and language loss, the work unfolds through a dramaturgical progression, meditating on belonging and what is inherited, altered, and carried forward. Through movement, speech, sound, and shapeshifting, "Aviator" examines communication, adaptation, and the construction of self when parts of what formed us remain inaccessible.

Founded in Sherbrooke in 2019 by choreographer Nicolas Zemmour, ZemmourBallet has quickly established itself as a recognized creative force in Quebec and internationally. A registered Canadian charity, the company develops, produces, and presents original choreographic works that place human experience at the heart of its artistic research.
ZemmourBallet’s work is grounded in excellence, integrity, and accessibility, and shaped by its distinctive approach, “Épaissisme”: an artistic movement centered on human experience rather than aesthetics, where bodies, gestures, speech, and duration become spaces for exploration and resonance. About L'amour du monde
Born from a riddle about “the love of the question,” "L’Amour du monde" explores love not as certainty, but as an endless search. Six performers move through a continuous choreographic flow in which every gesture becomes an inquiry. Bodies fall, rise, cling to one another, and pull away, caught between the desire for freedom and the need for connection, surrender and resistance, departure and attachment.
Driven by intense physicality and organic poetry, the work transforms the stage into a space of tension, loss, and renewal. Here, love is never defined: it is sought, displaced, undone, and reinvented. The audience is drawn into a sensory journey where dance offers no answers, but keeps one essential question alive: how do we remain fully alive in the world?
