Whisper

Composer‑Choreographer: Samuel Hobbs

2015 - Portland, Oregon USA

Whisper, set to an original piano score by composer-choreographer Samuel Hobbs, is a hypnotic, genderless duet of angular and sweeping floor-work—a simple, floating expression of power and form.

Performed primarily facing upstage and in unison, the dancers begin seated, intertwined as their upper bodies sculpt shadow and line in the center of the stage. The dancers pull apart and then coalesce as one form of energy in unison. Gentle precision guide 'Whisper' as the dancers glide atop the single piano of the score until Whisper closes in silence as the bodies sweep in repetition in and out of the ground—the pendulum of time, in perpetuum.
